As election season heats up, we have seen a pattern of Democrats refusing to debate and withdrawing from the civic electoral process by limiting the public’s access to them. Debate is an important aspect of American politics because it is a rare opportunity for candidates to come under fire for their records and face public scrutiny. This dose of candidates squaring off–though at times managed like pro-wrestling, is still in sharp contrast to the access-journalism puff pieces that regularly help craft establishment candidates. Therefore, this withdrawal from the democratic process is notable. As others have said, this is not coming from a place of strength. Incumbents who are subservient to war-mongers and death profiteers, cannot expect to be received well by the public when they debate and this is especially true when anti-establishment and anti-imperialist sentiment is on an incline and quality of life is on the decline. We may very well have another example of this on March 30, see the press release below.

Press Release – Morgan McGarvey (D) still hasn’t said if he’ll attend the debate on March 30 in Louisville

The three Democratic Party candidates for the US House of Representatives in Kentucky’s Third Congressional District are Jared Randall, Morgan McGarvey, and Geoff Young. The Debate and Town Hall Meeting will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Main Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library located at 301 York Street, Louisville, KY 40203, from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. It will be in Community Room 202, which is located on the second floor of the South Building (York Street side) of the Main Library. According to the Library’s guidelines, no requests for donations will be made or fees charged on-site.

Jared Randall and Geoff Young challenged McGarvey to this debate a month and a half ago, but he has not responded. Randall and Young will hold the event whether or not the incumbent shows up. It is free and open to the media and the public, and there will be opportunities for questions and answers.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed on Young’s Facebook profile. His Facebook handle is geoffrey.m.young.9
