The whole world is urging Israel to end its relentless assault on Gaza. With over 20,000 Palestinians dead, the Israelis refuse to end their onslaught. The people of Yemen, the poorest country in the world by some estimates, have decided to take action. The Ansar Allah movement, informally called the Houthis, have been stopping Israeli ships in the Red Sea, enforcing a naval boycott of Israel. They are blocking Israeli ships in the hopes of saving Palestinian lives.

The USA and the United Kingdom are now moving their forces to the Red Sea to protect Israel. This is outrageous. The Houthis are the heroes of the entire world for their brave acts of solidarity with Gaza.

The Ansar Allah movement shares a lot in common with the deeply held values of the American working class. The Houthis believe in the right to bear arms, and gun-ownership in a central part of the religious beliefs. The logo of Ansar Allah contains a shaft of wheat that stands for economic development. Yemen has been kept poor by a global financial system centered around Wall Street and London. Millions of working people have been starved, slaughtered and impoverished in the name of the sinister slogan of “Free Trade.” Yemenis are fighting to break out of that system, and now they are blocking its trading routes. Imperialism, capitalism in its monopoly stage, is not just the enemy of the Yemeni people and the Palestinian people, but also the American people.

America, just like Yemen, needs economic development. We need jobs, schools, hospitals, railway, roads, power plants. Sending young American soldiers and sailors to die in the Red Sea to protect Israel, while our homeland is crumbling is nothing but high treason. Our government is loyal to the international bankers and their system, not to this country or the American people. Just like the people of Yemen have done, the American people must also stand up for their country against the imperialists and their agenda of war and poverty.

On Sunday, January 7th, we call on people throughout the country to hit the streets in solidarity with Yemen.
