CPI Attends Gabbard Confirmation Hearings
On Thursday, January 30th, Center for Political Innovation Co-Director and Founder Caleb Maupin attended the Senate Intelligence Committee hearings on Capitol Hill. The topic was Lt. Col. Tulsi Gabbard, former U.S. Congresswoman from Hawaii, and her appointment by U.S. President Donald Trump as Director of National Intelligence.
Caleb Maupin sat in the hall of the Senate Office Building as Gabbard entered to applause and chants of “USA! USA!” from her supporters. He then observed the proceedings as members of the Intelligence Committee grilled her about her trip to Syria, her statements on the Ukraine war, and her support for Edward Snowden.
The proceedings reinforced the Center for Political Innovation’s optimistic perspective on the possibility of an improved U.S. foreign policy if she is confirmed. The Director of National Intelligence assembles a daily briefing for the President. If Tulsi Gabbard, who has spoken out against regime-change wars and holds a much more nuanced understanding of global conflicts, is able to take on this task, it could have very positive implications for global peace.
